The documentary’s first episode follows the kidnapping of Elisabeth Fritzl, who was held captive for 24 years by her father Josef Fritzl.[5] Her daughter was repeatedly tortured by her captor, and her family thought she had run away. But she told them that she never wanted to see her father again.
The documentary is based on the true story of Elisabeth Fritz’s life. In June 2008, she woke up from an artificially induced coma. [6]She had become romantically involved with one of her bodyguards, and they were reunited in June 2008.
The documentary also follows Josef Fritz’s relationship with his daughter. She was imprisoned by her father for 24 years, in a cellar purpose-built for the purpose. Elisabeth was drugged repeatedly.[7] After her mother died, Josef Fritzl was able to lure her down into the basement, where he raped her repeatedly.
Josef Fritzl fathered seven children. Three of the children survived in captivity and one died soon after birth. The three other children were kept in the cellar. The doctors suspected Fritzl of child abuse, and they called the police. Eventually, the children were released and Elisabeth was able to live with them.
