Unenroll From a Google Classroom

How to Unenroll From a Google Classroom? If you’re a teacher who has students in a Google classroom, it’s important to know how to unenroll them from your class so they can no longer access their work.[1]

You can do this in a few ways, such as by using a tool like Little SIS for Classroom or GAM. These tools allow you to filter by active classes and then run a bulk action to archive these courses.

How to Access Google Classroom

If you’re a teacher who uses Google Classroom in your school, then it’s likely that you’ve got a few classes that need to be unenrolled from the system. While removing them isn’t exactly an easy task, it’s definitely one that needs to be done before the start of the new year.[2]

First, you’ll want to take a look at all of the Active Classes that you have on your domain. Using tools like Little SIS for Classroom or GAM, you can find out what’s still active on your domain and run bulk actions to archive them in Google Classroom.

This is a great way to make sure that teachers and students don’t have any lingering classes that they aren’t using anymore, and also helps keep the Classroom home page tidy for next year.[3] You can even filter your list of classes to show just the ones that are still active, and run the bulk action to archive them all in one go!

Another thing that’s worth taking care of in Google Classroom is deleting any “Done Late” assignments that students have submitted. Having late submissions on an assignment can lower grades and be detrimental to students’ learning experience, so it’s important to remove these from your domain before the start of the new year!

Finally, you may also wish to check for any provisioned classes on your domain. If your district used a syncing solution (Little SIS Sync Agent, RosterSync, or a direct SIS sync) or bulk-created Google Classroom classes for teachers via GAM, you’ll have some that aren’t active anymore and are cluttering up your domain.[4]

Performing this action is simple: all you’ll need to do is use a tool like Little SIS for Classroom to identify the provisioned classes on your domain, and then you can run a bulk action to delete them from the teachers’ Google Classroom home pages.

Similarly, if your school has used a Realize account for Google Classroom, then it’s important to disconnect from that account before you remove it from the domain. If you do, any Google Classes that were imported under that Realize account will be removed from the Classroom view for the disconnecting Realize teacher and converted to Realize Basic classes.[5] This will also mean that any student accounts that were imported under that Realize account will no longer be linked to any of those Google Classrooms.

Create and Edit a Class in Google Classroom

As the school year winds down, many districts are looking to clean up their Google Classrooms. If you have a teacher who will be leaving your school, or if you need to transfer ownership of your classes from one teacher to another, there are a few key steps you’ll want to take to get this done as quickly as possible[6].

The first step is to use Little SIS to change the primary owner of any active classes you have. If you have not already done so, use the filters to find these classes and then select the bulk actions menu to update their ownership.

Alternatively, you can do this manually by clicking the Class tab in Little SIS and then selecting “Update Course Owner” from the Actions menu. This will change the primary owner of your class and will remove the old owner from the classes view in Little SIS.[7]

Once the class is changed to a new owner, the former teacher will be sent an invitation to take over. They will be asked to log into Google Classroom and accept this invitation before the class is deleted from Little SIS.

You may also need to make changes to the class if you change its name or category. If you do not know the category, you can change it by clicking the “Classes” tab in Little SIS and then clicking the arrow to the left of the class name to open up the “Category” dropdown list.[8]

Note that when you update a class’s category, you must also delete it from the class in Little SIS to prevent students from using the old name for their assignments. This is especially important if you need to rename a class later on and you want to preserve any previous work that has been uploaded into that class.

The “Default Assignment Type” column will automatically populate with all of the assignment types you’ve created for your classes in Gradelink. In some cases, this will be the same as what you’ve configured in Google Classroom.[9]

If you have students who are not currently in your classes, you can add them by clicking on their names and selecting “Add to Classes” from the dropdown. This will then create a new class for them with the correct grade scale and assignments.

How to Edit Your Classes

Google Classrooms allow teachers to manage their classes and students, and also to track progress on assignments.[10] You can edit your classes in many ways, including changing the class name, assigning books, and adding or removing students. You can also unenroll from a class, which will remove your access to that class.

If you want to change the name of a class, go to the main menu and click on “Classes.” Next, click on the class that you would like to change. This will open a window where you can make the changes you want.

After making the changes, you can click on the blue “Save Changes” button to save your changes. If you do not save your changes, they will be lost.

Alternatively, you can delete the class by clicking on the class’s name in the list and then selecting the “Delete” option under the action tab.[11] You will then be asked to sign in with your Google account and confirm your changes.

There are many advantages to deleting your classes, such as removing the clutter from your Classroom homepage and giving your teachers a fresh start when they return next year. However, you may want to consider archiving your classes before you do so, since it can leave the Classroom homepage looking very messy for new teachers.

Another benefit of archiving your classes is that it removes them from the domain, so students never see them on their home pages.[12] You can do this using a tool like Little SIS for Classroom, or by running a bulk operation via GAM.

Once you’ve sorted through all of your active classes, you can then run the archive bulk action from Little SIS or GAM to remove them. This will remove all of the class names that appear on the homepage in Google Classroom, and place them in a section where they can be easily restored by the teacher.

You can also unsubscribe from a class by clicking on the “people” link next to your name in the class.[13] Depending on the number of people in that class, you may have to select more than one person before you can click on the link and unsubscribe from the class.

Add Students to Your Google Classroom

Google Classroom is a great way to collaborate with students and teachers on projects. Students can also use this platform to keep track of assignments, tests, and other important information. This tool is particularly helpful for struggling students who need extra assistance to complete their work.

One of the most interesting and exciting features of Google Classroom is its ability to sync with a student’s calendar.[14] For example, when a teacher schedules a Google Meet or other assignment deadline, the app will automatically update the student’s calendar with that time and date. This feature allows students to be on-time for their next meeting or assignment without having to remember a time and date or worry about losing the information.

In addition to these nifty features, teachers can also leverage a variety of other features to help their classrooms function more smoothly. For example, the ability to link a student’s Google Drive with their Google Classroom account can help students organize and access files for class assignments.[15]

The best part is that teachers can make these tools a part of their everyday routine. This allows them to better utilize their time and help their students succeed in their classes.
