How to Delete Trash on Android? Android devices often have limited storage space, so it is important to manage files and clear them periodically. The trash folder, also called recycle bin on some phones, is a good place to start.

Most photo & video management apps for Android include a Recently Deleted folder where deleted images & videos are stored temporarily. You can easily clear this to free up storage space.[1]

The Google Photos app is a popular choice for Android users to store their photos & videos. It offers an intuitive interface, instant sharing function, and cloud storage. However, it can cause storage problems if you’re not careful about how much space you use.

To avoid these issues, it is important to delete trash files from your device regularly. This will free up considerable amount of storage and enhance your device’s performance.[2]

One of the easiest ways to remove trash files on your device is by using the Files by Google app. The app can be found in the Google Play Store or by searching for it.

Once you open the app, tap on the three horizontal lines (hamburger menu) and select Bin or Trash. This will then bring up a menu with a list of recently deleted files.

You can then choose which files you want to remove. Alternatively, you can select all files and press the Delete button to permanently clear out these files from your device.[3]

If you’ve deleted photos or videos on your Android device and they are still synced to the Google Photos cloud, they may be recoverable. You can restore them to your Google Photos library within 60 days after the deletion date.

Whether you’re using the Google Photos app on your phone or the desktop, you can restore deleted files to the original location. The process is simple, but you’ll need to be patient as the app stores data in the background.[4]

The app will display a warning about the files you’re trying to recover and the amount of time they’ll be stored in the cloud. Once you’ve finished the process, the warning will disappear and your files will be recovered.

In addition to deleting your photos from the Google Photos cloud, you can also manually delete files that you’ve deleted on your Android device from the app’s trash folder. This can help you keep your device’s storage up to par and prevent the Google Photos cloud exclamation mark from appearing.

Another way to restore photos and videos that you’ve deleted is to search for them in the Google Photos library. This will bring up a list of video files that are in the app’s collection. To search for a video file, you can enter the file extension in the search field. You can also click on the file’s title or the icon next to its name.[5]

Remove Junk Files from Gmail

One of the best ways to free up space on an Android phone is to delete junk files. Often, these are unnecessarily large attachments or newsletters that take up storage space on your device. The good news is that you can easily and quickly clear these clutter clogs up your home screen or app drawer with a few taps of the screen.

The first step is to navigate your way into the Gmail app and sign in with your Workspace account. You can do this by tapping the three horizontal lines in the top left corner of the screen, which will open the menu for you.[6]

Next, scroll down to the Trash folder. This is a bit of a challenge, but it’s well worth the effort. Once you’re there, the Trash app has a number of features to help you clean out your trash bin.

There’s also the Trash Lite, which is a light-weight app that lets you view, organize, and delete files on your phone. This app is free and available on many Android devices. It isn’t quite as slick as the full-on app, but it does the job without a hitch. The app has a number of cleverly disguised features, including a nifty syncing capability that automatically moves deleted files to the appropriate storage locations. You can also set up notifications to alert you when these functions occur.[7]

Use Recycle Bin App

Android doesn’t have a dedicated Trash folder by default, but you can use an app like Dumpster to delete trash on your device. This mobile application works just like a computer’s Recycle Bin and lets you safely and easily delete data, empty the Trash folder from unnecessary files as it gets full, store files in the cloud, and even set up an auto-clean function after a specified time.[8]

The main benefit of using this tool is that you can restore all deleted audio, images, videos, VCF cards, documents, APK files and HTML pages to your device after the trash folder has been emptied. To use this tool, you need to download it from the Google Play Store and launch it on your device.

When you’re ready to restore your deleted files, just select them in the list and click Restore. You can also use the Bulk Restore option to restore all files in a single go.

You can also restore all deleted photos on your device using the Gallery app.[9] The app will scan your SD card for deleted files and allow you to restore them.

Another way to delete trash on your Android device is to use the Files app, which debuted in Android 8.0 Oreo. Once you’ve opened the app, you can tap the hamburger icon at the top to get a menu that includes the trash section.

The trash section in the Files app is pretty helpful. Unlike other file managers that hide trashed items by prefacing their files with a ‘.’, Files by Google will display these files in the hidden Trash folder.[10]

In the future, Google might try to add a system-wide Trash folder in Android 12. This will let users view and restore all trashed files in one place.

However, the problem with Android’s current trashing system is that some apps have to use the MediaStore API to mark files as trash. This can be annoying and can prevent users from viewing and restoring their trashed files in one place.

Android doesn’t have a built-in trash folder like Windows does, so deleted files are usually stored in the phone’s internal memory until they are overwritten by new data. However, there are ways to recover files you’ve deleted on your phone or tablet. Here’s how to do it. One of the first things you should do is clear your cached data. This will help you free up space and speed up your device.[11]

Clearing your cached data

Clearing your cached data can improve the performance of apps and websites, as well as free up storage space. It also helps prevent devices from getting bogged down, especially if you use a low-end phone with less storage space.

Cached data is the temporary files, images, and scripts that your Android device stores when you open an app or visit a website. These files help the app or website load faster the next time you open it.

However, over time these files can take up a lot of space and slow down your device. So it’s best to clear your cached data when it starts to fill up or become a problem.[12]

If you have an Android phone, there’s a quick way to delete your app cache. Just long-press on an app icon and tap Storage. You’ll see how much storage the cache is taking up, then tap Clear Cache to wipe out all of its temporary files.

Depending on the version of Android you have, you might get options to delete all of the cache for your entire phone, or just a single app. In either case, tap Delete and then OK to clear your cached data.

You can also clear your cache on a specific app by long-pressing on the app icon and tapping Storage, followed by Clear Cache. Repeat this for other apps until they are all cleared.

The Android cache is an important part of how your phone works. Specifically, it’s designed to keep data from downloading and re-downloading every time you open an app or website.[13]

It’s also a way for your device to save images, audio, and video files so that they can be easily retrieved when you need them. This helps improve your overall browsing experience and can save battery life by not having to constantly refresh the browser window.

It’s not something that should be done on a daily basis, but it’s still worth doing once in a while. Clearing your Android cache can help speed up your device, and can resolve problems like slowdowns and glitches.

Deleting downloaded files

Deleting downloaded files on your Android phone is one of the best ways to free up space and improve device performance. However, it can be difficult to find the specific files that you want to remove from your phone.[14]

The first step is to open the file manager app on your device. You can use the Files by Google app on most devices or a more advanced file management application such as Total Commander.

Once you’ve opened the app, tap on Downloads to view all your recent downloads. You can then select the ones you want to delete and move them to the Trash.

You can also use the Files by Google app to clear the entire download folder on your device and make space for new files. The process is simple, but you should note that deleting your files will permanently erase them from your device.[15]

Another option is to manually go into the app’s settings and enable hidden files. This will make it easier to find files that are hidden.

If you can’t locate a file, you can also try retrying the download. Just click the button to the right of the entry – a refresh symbol – to try again.

Alternatively, you can delete the entire download folder on your device using the Files by Google app or a more advanced file management application such has Total Commander. The Files by Google app is my favorite, as it makes it easy to navigate and remove files.

Use Smart Storage

The Android operating system doesn’t have a universal trash folder like desktop computers have, so you may have to empty your phone’s trash manually from apps to free up storage space. [16]However, you can use Smart Storage to free up space on your Android device automatically.

Smart storage works by analyzing and deleting duplicate files from your phone’s storage and monitoring activities in the background. This will help you clear your device’s memory without using any battery power.

It’s an effective way to clean up your device’s memory and save a lot of space. The feature also allows you to select what you want it to remove from your phone’s storage, including downloaded files, photos, videos, and apps you’ve not opened in the last 90 days.

To enable this feature, go to Settings > Storage and toggle it on. You can also set it to automatically clear downloaded files, photos and videos, and backed up photos and videos that are 30, 60, or 90 days old.

The Smart Storage feature will then scan your devices and identify which apps, photos, and video files are consuming the most storage space. Then it will display a list of the files it can delete[17].

Once you’ve chosen what you want it to remove, click “Clear” and your phone will start deleting those files. This will give your phone more storage space and speed up the operation of apps, games, and other applications.

Alternatively, you can manually clear the storage of your phone’s app and files folders using the File Manager application on your device. You can also move unused files to an SD card or cloud storage to free up space in your device’s internal memory.

If you’re concerned about a deleted file on your Android device, it can be recovered using a tool such as Dumpster. It’s a popular app for restoring files from trash and can even restore deleted photos, videos, apps, and other files.[18]

A well-designed storage solution is one that caters to changes and evolves over time, instead of being designed to serve a single purpose from the get-go. This type of design is often referred to as “integrated design.” It’s an approach that prioritizes flexibility and customization for adaptable living.

Remove Unused Apps from Phone

Getting rid of unused apps on an android device is one of the best ways to free up space. Unused apps can clutter your phone storage and make it hard for you to access important files. In addition, they can slow down the performance of your device.

You can delete unused apps on your android by either removing them from the app store or uninstalling them manually. This will free up space on your device and also help it perform better.[19]

To remove a unused app from the phone, open the Settings menu and tap Apps & Notifications (or ‘Apps’, for some phones). This will show you a list of all your apps in order, complete with an Uninstall button for each.

For some users, this method is more convenient and streamlined than swiping through the app drawer or home screen to find the specific app they want to remove. It’s also an effective way to remove unwanted apps in bulk, as you can select multiple apps at once by dragging them onto the Uninstall button on the top of the screen.[20]

Another quick and simple way to get rid of unused apps is to use the file management system on your device. Many of these systems will have a trash or temporary folder that you can use to remove apps and other files that you don’t need anymore.

You can also clear the cached data of an app on your device by tapping Storage > Clear Cache. This will remove the data that an app has saved on your device, which can improve the speed of your phone and allow you to download more files faster.

It’s always a good idea to clean out your phone’s storage as often as possible. Not only will it free up space and keep your device performing at its peak, but it will also keep it safer.

If you’re looking for a quick and easy way to find unused apps on your Android device, consider downloading the Files Go app. This application will automatically scan your phone for unused apps and provide a simple way to get rid of them.
