It’s a well-known fact that Louisville is home to some of the best pizza in the country. [2]The best part is that you don’t have to pay top dollar for your fix. With so many options on the market, you’re bound to find something to suit your palate.

The best way to ensure you get a high quality pizza is to order a pie from a reputable local pizzeria. A local favorite that’s been around for over 40 years is Impellizzeri’s, which also serves up some of the city’s finest pasta dishes and salads. Some other notable options include Sarino in Germantown and Wick’s Pizza & Bar in the Phelps district. [3]

The most expensive pies are priced at a hefty $13 or so, but it’s not uncommon to pay as little as $8 for your fill of cheese and pepperoni. If you can’t afford to shell out the dough, you can always try your luck with a takeout from one of the many delivery services in the area. Or, you can savor your slice on a local microbrew with the Louisville Beer Week, which is currently underway at the Old 502 brewery and Braxton Brewing Co.

For seven days in November, Louisville Pizza Week brings out the best of Louisville with its signature $8 pizzas (minimum 10 inches). The event is a great opportunity for locals to celebrate our foodie culture while getting out to try new restaurants and eat their way through the city.[4]

The kickoff party for Louisville Pizza Week is coming up Nov. 8 at Old 502 Winery from 5:30-8:30 p.m. The event will feature a tasting of various pizzas from participating locations, plus the opportunity to pick up the official Louisville Pizza Week passport that can be stamped for each full pie ordered during the week.

BoomBozz Craft Pizza & Taphouse is offering a 12-inch Chicken Bacon Avocado pizza during Louisville Pizza Week, which has marinated chicken, applewood-smoked bacon, and red onion on creamy ranchero sauce and topped with fresh mozzarella and fresh avocado cream. The restaurant also offers a build-your-own pizza, with your choice of two toppings.

Abo’s is known for its easy-to-please pizza, which has a New York City Neapolitan crust and hand-tossed dough that’s never frozen. The cheese is the highest-quality 100% mozzarella that’s moist and chewy.[5]

If you’re not in the mood for a traditional pie, Sol Pie Pizza has a number of options to choose from, including gluten-free crust, vegan cheese and organic sauce. In addition to pizza, Sol offers salads, subs and bowls, as well as a soda machine serving organic sodas from Idaho’s Tractor Soda Co.

This is one of those places that might get slammed after this review comes out, but it’s definitely worth checking out for its excellent, chewy pizza crust and a variety of topping options. The staff is friendly and the pizzas aren’t overloaded with cheese, so you can taste the many flavors of each ingredient.

It’s a small operation, so if you’re planning to go during the week be patient and don’t be afraid to tip more than 20 percent.[6]

Spinelli’s Pizzeria

Best Pizza in Louisville

Louisville is home to many pizza eateries, but Spinelli’s Pizzeria is a favorite among local pizza lovers. Located in the heart of downtown, this eatery is a go-to spot for families and foodies. The restaurant also offers free wifi and delivery, making it an ideal place to relax after a long day of work.

If you’re craving a pizza that has a little more flavor than the average slice, you’ll want to try the Margherita or the pizzicletta. Both pies feature sourdough crust, which isn’t crispy like other types of pizza, but adds a whole new level of texture to the dish. The margherita combines cheese, pepperoni, and fresh tomato sauce to form a tasty combination that is sure to leave you satisfied.[8]

With more than a few locations across the city, Spinelli’s has become a staple of Louisville. This place is known for its quality pizza and delicious desserts, including a chocolate lava crunch cake.

Aside from pizza, this restaurant also serves sandwiches and pasta dishes. In fact, the chain began as a sandwich shop, offering chicken wings and other appetizers before adding pasta and pizza. Currently, they offer 15 specialty pizzas and 24+ toppings.

While the pizza at this chain isn’t quite as good as some of the other restaurants on this list, it’s still a favorite in Louisville for those looking for a quick lunch or dinner. In addition to the savory offerings, the restaurant has a wide selection of wine and beer to choose from.[9]

While the dining room could use some renovations, this is a popular hangout for Louisville residents who are looking for a great slice of pizza. It’s a good choice for those who aren’t in the mood to spend too much time at the bar, as it’s also open until late.

Parlour Pizza

Parlour Pizza in Shelby Park is a new addition to the Louisville restaurant scene, and it’s bringing an innovative version of one of our favorite Italian foods to the table. The sit-down eatery is the brainchild of chef and restaurateur Mike David, who is also behind the Sugar Room ice cream parlor in the same location.

The menu features a range of Italian classics, from antipasto platters and calzones to pasta and pizza. You can also choose from several salads.[10] If you’re looking for a drink, the bar is equipped with an array of draft beer and cocktails.

Other specials include a 12-inch Chicken Bacon Avocado pizza from BoomBozz Craft Pizza & Taphouse, which is topped with marinated chicken, applewood-smoked bacon and red onion on creamy ranchero sauce, plus fresh mozzarella and avocado cream. It’s available at select locations for $8, which is a good deal if you don’t mind waiting for your order.

The week-long event is being organized by Tony Frank, the creator of Louisville Burger Week and a man who understands how important it is to keep our city’s culinary community energized. It’s an excellent opportunity for locals to check out some of the city’s top eateries while enjoying great food, drink and service. For a list of participating restaurants, click here.

Best Fancy Pizza in Louisville

Best Pizza in Louisville

We’ve got you covered on all things pizza. We’ve rounded up the best pizza joints around town to help you find the best pies and drinks in Louisville.

The Post – A cool modern pizza joint in an old VFW Post that serves up New York style pies and subs, with some interesting eats on the menu like their Lone Wolf (bacon, sweet ham, sausage, pepperoni, onion, peppers, and kalamata olives) and their Giant Cheese Slice. If you’re a fan of strong drinks, you’ll love The Post’s cocktail list![12]

Garage Bar – A great outdoor space, hanging hams, and killer margherita pizza make this one of the city’s most popular spots. And it doesn’t hurt that their beer and craft cocktail selection is impressive, too.

There are plenty of other great pizza places around the city, so you might not want to spend your entire trip on the best pizza in Louisville. [13]That said, you do need to try something different from the norm. And that might just be a specialty pie with a fun name. It could also be a new place to visit that has an oh-so-cool decor and service. Let’s hope you get a chance to check some of them out soon!

Coals Artisan Pizza

Louisville may be the birthplace of Papa John’s, but it is home to a wide selection of local and national pizza places to rival even the largest cities. One of the best is BoomBozz, which serves a unique potato-topped pie that the Food Network called the “best pizza in America.”

Other local favorites include Wick’s Pizza Parlor & Pub and Impellizzeri’s (order the breadsticks!). Both offer unique atmospheres and great deals throughout the week.

Another favorite is Coals Artisan Pizza, which serves up coal-fired artisan pizza in two locations around town. The menu features amazing ingredients, and there’s always a full dining room.[14]

It is hard to find a bad pie at this pizza joint, and they have a good wine list. But what truly makes their pies special is the coal-burning oven they use, which produces a thin crust that’s not too crunchy or too chewy, and is infused with a dry heat to give it a crispy outer layer.

This upscale restaurant also offers a cozy, laid-back atmosphere and is known for their excellent beers. It is the perfect place for a date night or to meet friends.

The dough at this artisan pizza joint takes two days to make, and it’s baked on a coal-fired oven. It’s topped with a variety of toppings including Bianco organic tomatoes and nduja sausage, which adds a depth of flavor.[15]

The slightly imperfect circles are ringed with light, puffy and black-blistered crusts and sauce-speckled centers. There are a ton of fun toppings on offer, like salami and mortadella, provolone and eggs, mascarpone and Brussels sprouts, and traditional muffuletta components. This is a place where you can experience the finest pizza in Kentucky, and you will not be disappointed!

Pizza Lupo

Best Pizza in Louisville

If you’re looking for a place to eat Pizza in Louisville, there are a few places that are consistently reviewed highly on Grubhub.[16] You can also find a lot of great Pizza restaurants on Yelp that offer delivery in the area.

One of the best places to eat Pizza in Louisville is Lupo, which is located at 1540 Frankfort Avenue. It offers seasonalally inspired Neapolitan pizza, Italian dishes and cocktails in a historic brick building.

The pizzas here are made with real care. They are baked in a wood-fired oven imported from Italy, and the coals smolder even when the oven is closed. This attention to detail is something that Adam Turla and Sarah Balliet take very seriously, as they have devoted a great deal of time to the project since opening the restaurant last year.

While the menu may be heavy on traditional pizzas, they don’t skimp on other dishes like agnolotti and porchetta. [17]The fennel and citrus salad, for example, is bright and refreshing and a nice counterpoint to the richer items on the menu.

In addition to the wood-fired pizzas, there are a few more specialty dishes that will keep you coming back for more. The octopus and potato is the best of the lot, and the puttanesca sauce is infused with a flavor that’s addictive.

There are some other excellent spots to eat Pizza in Louisville, but this is probably the best one that offers delivery. The pizzas are delicious and the service is great. The best part is that it’s a family-owned and operated business that has been in the business for over 25 years. You can order online for pickup or delivery.

A quick jaunt outside of the city brings you to the charming village of Anchorage where a snazzy little barn houses a serious wood-fired oven. The ginormous aficionado can get their fix of finely crafted pizza, pasta, and cocktails. The eponymous best-of-the-breed, award winning wine list is worth the trip, and the cocktail menu has the wow factor.[18]

One thing for sure, this is a place you will want to make a regular stop on your Louisville travel itinerary. It has one of the best apes in town (no, it’s not the drooling ape) a swag bag to boot, and the most efficient staff in town. There’s no denying that Louisville is the pizza capital of the nation and the home of the Kentucky fried chicken, but the big city also has a lot more to offer its residents and visitors alike.

Square Cut

Best Pizza in Louisville

There are many excellent pizza places in Louisville but one of the best is Square Cut. This place is open late and serves a unique kind of pie.[19]

The pies are baked not once but twice for extra crunch. They also use a mild provolone cheese rather than the classic mozzarella. This makes for a cheesy pizza that will satisfy your craving.

In addition to the standard pizzas, you can order Chicago stuffed and a square Sicilian. They also have calzones and strombolis.

A family-run restaurant with two locations in Asheville, this place has a huge menu that is stuffed with good pizza. They have both traditional and vegan pizza and you can get sandwiches, salads and appetizers as well!

They are famous for their large pizzas. Each piece is just as big as the table! It is a lot of food but it’s very tasty.

If you are looking for a place to eat with friends or family, this is a great option. They have a nice menu and the prices are good.[20]

This place has been around for years and is a popular hang out for people. They have a huge menu of pizzas and they have a bar as well!

The pizza is excellent but the service needs to be better. It took me over an hour to get my dinner, even though I placed the order earlier in the day.

This place has been around for over 25 years and is a popular hang out for students. They have a huge menu of pizzas, sandwiches, pasta and they have a great beer selection. They also have a movie theater so if you are looking for a place to watch a movie while eating pizza this is the place!
