Motel Makeover

She’s teamed up with her longtime partner, David Silver, and interior designer Dani Dazey to live out her demolition dreams and turn the dingy rooms of an old hotel into a dazzling destination. She’s recruited a bevy of stars, including Lisa Vanderpump, Iggy Azalea, Zooey Deschanel, Katya, Mo Heart, Jaida Essence Hall, Nicole Byer, Jonathan Scott, Juno Birch, Brittany Broski, Gigi Gorgeous, Emily Hampshire, Orville Peck, Property Brothers Jonathan Scott and Nic Scheppard and Jenson Titus from Very Gay Paint to get the job done.[3]

The resulting Motel 6’s rooms have new wood-effect laminate flooring, 32-inch flat screen televisions and multimedia centers that allow guests to stream TV shows, music or video games. Guests also have access to Wi-Fi Internet and new black granite bathroom counters. Amorosia says that the colorful furniture and new floors make each room stand out. Tiny House Nation

Best Interior Design Shows

The tiny house movement is sweeping the nation, as more and more people are choosing to downsize their homes. Whether they’re looking for financial freedom, a simpler lifestyle or a smaller environmental impact, more and more Americans are opting for small spaces that can fit their needs.[5]

Tiny house communities have also been popping up, where residents can share the space in small clusters. In addition to allowing for greater flexibility, these communities also provide a sense of community and reduce blighted property.

In Colorado, two major tiny home developments are in the works. One is called “Heart of the Rockies,” where 200 rental homes are planned for the town of Salida. The other is a subdivision in Walsenburg, a popular retirement spot.

Some homeowners opt to build their own tiny houses, while others hire a contractor to bring their visions to life. [6]Regardless of the route chosen, it’s always helpful to have a professional who can guide you through the process, especially if you don’t have experience in construction.

A couple in California went through this exact scenario when they wanted to downsize to a tiny home. They purchased a RV-certified tiny house, but after the home’s builder went bankrupt, they decided to complete the project themselves. The couple’s journey was full of twists and turns, but they’re finally living in their own tiny house.[7]

While this lifestyle can be a great way to live a simpler, more minimalist life, it doesn’t come without its challenges. For instance, zoning laws can be tough to navigate and even parking is an issue. Fortunately, there are ways to get around this.

There are also communities where you can park your own tiny house and enjoy the amenities. For example, The Sanctuary Minnesota Village is a tiny community that’s perfect for adults. The community is located in a rural area and includes 30 tiny homes, a common building and a laundry room.

The biggest challenge for most tiny house owners is figuring out where to park their homes. Although many choose to travel, finding a safe and legal place to park your home is often a challenge.[8] Some have also opted to convert their vans into stealthier tiny homes. These options can save you time and energy.

Property Brothers

HGTV is home to a number of top interior design shows, but one that stands out is Property Brothers. The show focuses on identical twin brothers Jonathan and Drew Scott, who use their combined skills to renovate fixer-uppers into their clients’ dream homes.

The Canadian-produced show first aired on W Network in 2011, and has since made its way across the pond to HGTV. In each episode, licensed real estate broker Drew finds a home with potential that needs renovation, and he enlists the help of contractor Jonathan to turn it into a beautiful new home.[9]

According to HGTV, they’ve been filming their series in Nashville for the last three months, and have completed 17 full-blown renovations so far. They’re working on two of their shows at a time, so they spend the majority of their time jumping between projects and homeowners.

They’re also very active in their communities, as they’ve donated money to several causes and charities over the years. Their involvement in local organizations helps them build a solid reputation and create lasting relationships with their fans.

In addition to their HGTV shows, the Scott brothers have written a book called Dream Home: Your Complete Guide to Buying, Selling, and Remodeling Your Home (Penguin Press). They discuss everything from the hidden costs of moving to savvy negotiating tactics.[10]

While they’ve been successful, the brothers haven’t always had a smooth ride. The first season of Property Brothers was almost ruined by a scam, and the show had to issue an official warning on the scammers.

Thankfully, the Scotts have since made a commitment to educating their fans about these types of scams. In fact, they have even teamed up with a nonprofit to provide free tips on how to avoid falling victim to these schemes.[11]

They also have a few books that are available on their website. Among them, Dream Home: Your Complete Guide to Buying, selling, and Remodeling Your Home features hundreds of photos and helpful tips from the brothers.

Property Brothers has a number of spinoffs, including Buying and Selling and Brother Vs. Brother, as well as the Scotts’ own shows, Property Brothers At Home and Forever Home. These series feature a different kind of clientele, as they’re not necessarily looking to flip their house for profit. Instead, they’re hoping to make it a place where their family can live comfortably and be happy.[12]

Good Bones

Best Interior Design Shows

Good Bones is a series on HGTV that follows a mother and daughter duo transforming dilapidated homes around Indianapolis into dreamy new dwellings. According to House Beautiful, Two Chicks and a Hammer renovates 14 homes per year, a hefty workload for any company.[13]

Starsiak Hawk and Laine are no strangers to the world of home decor, so it’s no surprise that they have a hunch for what works. The two sisters have a knack for finding one-of-a-kind pieces that perfectly fit their style and budget. They also enlist the help of friends and family members when they need it.

The HGTV show has inspired plenty of inspired consumers to go the interior design route. Luckily for these home gurus, there are plenty of websites and online stores to help them.

Among them is the official Two Chicks and a Hammer website. The site has a home decor section that features products from all six seasons of the show, and it even includes a nifty app for on the go shopping.

A closer look at the site reveals it has something for every taste and budget. The best thing about the site is that it’s easy to navigate, and you can shop for all your home decor needs with a single click. For example, you can filter by price range and even browse products by room. Likewise, you can filter by type (books, jewelry, furniture), and by brand.[14]
